Travel in the Quran

Throughout the Quran, special emphasis is laid on physical travel. The word saiyr — meaning travel or move — appears in its variations 27 times in the Quran, often as "Do travel," "Tell them to travel," or "Do they not travel?"
We surely sent a messenger to every community, saying, "Worship Allah and shun false gods." But some of them were guided by Allah, while others were destined to stray. So travel throughout the land and see the fate of the deniers!

The Quran presents travel as a potential pilgrimage, since during travel one passes by numerous ayah or divine signs (12:105, 22:46, 31:31). Man's ability to travel is also described as a special honor given to humankind (17:70).
